Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 11, 2026 Last Updated: March 11, 2026
Open Nvite ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Open Nvite web application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use the Service. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, contact us at hello@opennvite.com.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
When you create an account and use the Service, you provide us with:
Identity information: Full name, email address.
Date of birth: Used to verify you are 21 or older.
Gender: Used to personalize your experience and to enable gender-based filtering in the Discover feature.
Profile information: A profile photo and optional bio.
Moment content: Titles, descriptions, and images for Moments you create.
Safety acknowledgment: Confirmation that you have read and agreed to our Safety Policy.
Information Collected Automatically
When you use the Service, we automatically collect:
Location data: We collect your device's GPS coordinates when you use the Service, including when you create a Moment (to verify it is within the required proximity to your location) and when you browse the Discover page (to show you nearby Moments). We do not store a continuous log of your location history — location is used in real time and not retained beyond your active session.
Device and usage information: Browser type, operating system, pages visited, time spent, and general usage patterns. This helps us improve the Service.
Log data: IP addresses, error reports, and access times collected automatically by our servers.
Information from Third Parties
If you register or sign in using Google, we receive basic profile information from Google, including your name and email address, as permitted by your Google account settings. We do not access any other data from your Google account.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
Create and manage your account.
Verify your eligibility to use the Service (21+ age requirement, US location).
Show you Moments near your current location.
Enable you to create, join, and manage Moments.
Send you transactional emails (account confirmation, Moment confirmations, cancellations, and reminders).
Display relevant profile information to other users in the context of Moments you host or join.
Improve, debug, and personalize the Service.
Respond to your questions and support requests.
Enforce our Terms of Service and Safety Policy.
Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your information to send marketing or promotional emails without your explicit opt-in consent.
3. What We Share and With Whom
We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following circumstances:
With other users: When you host or join a Moment, your name and profile photo are visible to other participants. Your gender and age (not your full date of birth) may be displayed on your profile page. Your email address is never shared with other users.
With service providers: We share information with trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the Service, including:
Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure
Resend — transactional email delivery
Mapbox — location search and map display
Google — optional sign-in via Google OAuth
Vercel — web hosting and deployment
These providers are contractually obligated to handle your data securely and only for the purposes we specify.
For legal reasons: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Open Nvite, our users, or the public.
In a business transfer: If Open Nvite is acquired, merged, or its assets are sold, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.
4. Location Data
Location is central to the Open Nvite experience. Specifically:
When creating a Moment: We use your device's GPS coordinates to verify the Moment location is within 15 miles of where you currently are. This ensures Moments are local and authentic.
When browsing Discover: We use your GPS coordinates to show you nearby Moments and to display the city you are in. This happens in your browser and the raw coordinates are not permanently stored on our servers beyond what is needed to process the request.
Moment locations: The address and coordinates of each Moment are stored in our database so other users can find them.
You can decline to share your location with the app, but certain features (creating Moments, distance-based filtering) will not function without it.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, regulatory, or legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention records).
Moment data (titles, descriptions, location) may be retained in anonymized form after your account is deleted.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure. These include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure storage via Supabase's infrastructure, and access controls limiting who can view your data.
No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Correction: You may update or correct inaccurate information through your profile settings or by contacting us.
Deletion: You may request deletion of your account and personal information by emailing hello@opennvite.com. We will process your request within 30 days.
Portability: You may request an export of your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.
Opt-out of communications: You may unsubscribe from non-essential emails by following the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by contacting us directly.
California Residents (CCPA): If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights. To submit a request, contact us at hello@opennvite.com.
8. Children's Privacy
Open Nvite is strictly for users who are 21 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 21. If we become aware that a user is under 21, we will immediately terminate their account and delete their information. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at hello@opennvite.com.
9. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a notice in the Service. Your continued use of the Service after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.
